The Kawasaki KLX 230, also bound for our market, has been officially unveiled in India. Pricing is expected to be announced in December, possibly during India Bike Week 2024.
Assembled locally in India, the KLX 230 is a dual-sport motorcycle that will compete with the Hero Xpulse 200 4V. It will be offered in two color options: Lime Green and Battle Grey.
Regarding styling, the KLX 230 features an LED headlight, traditional bulb indicators, and a high-mounted front fender. Its design incorporates minimal body panels, which helps reduce damage during off-road rides. The bike's aggressive look is highlighted by round mirrors, a straight handlebar, and sleek tank extensions. At the rear, an upswept exhaust is positioned just below the flat passenger seat, and the seat height is notably high at 880mm.
Powering the KLX 230 is a 233cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 18.1 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 6,400 rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox, providing an advantage over the five-speed found in the Xpulse 200 4V. Kawasaki asserts that the engine delivers robust low and mid-range performance.
The motorcycle features a tubular steel frame with a 37mm telescopic fork in the front and a link-type mono-shock rear suspension with adjustable preload. The front offers 240mm of travel, while the rear provides 250mm. Equipped with a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel, the KLX 230 is fitted with MRF tyres and boasts a generous ground clearance of 265mm. It weighs a lightweight 139kg.
Braking is handled by a 265mm disc in the front and a 220mm disc in the rear, with switchable ABS that allows for rear wheel locking during off-road riding. The KLX 230 also features a fully digital LCD with smartphone connectivity.
